The lake is surrounded by many snow-capped mountains and is fed by numerous small streams from them. The lake has
an outlet stream at its far western end and means
turquoise in English due to its colour cause by fine silt particles, or glacial flour, in the water

There were several stops around the lake for tourists (including the odd monk on tour)
to take photos with yak and the imposing Tibetan Mastiffs
